Jazz neck or Precision neck. Which do you prefer and why?

Neither. Rickenbacker necks.

Though, I guess specifically the Geddy Jazz neck or the least beefy (front to back) P neck would be okay.

I like a slim precision neck. Jazz necks are too thin and some precision necks are way too wide.

I'm really weird about J vs P necks. If my bass is strung with rounds, either one is ok. If the bass is strung with flats, it has to be a J width.

Unless it's my Ibanez BTB's, which have 1.625" widths. Those necks feel great to me whether they're strung with flats or rounds.

Medium to small hands but prefer Ps and P5s, Zon 5s etc. My fretting hand will cramp on a Jazz, a shame because I hate playing my '66J of 30 years, the thing looks like NOS or time machine.

I prefer jazz necks. I have no reason or logic to support my preference, it is nothing more than what feels best in my hand.

I have very large hands, with long fingers. I have no problem wrapping my hand around the base of most 5 string necks and touching thumb to fingers. I find my 3 course 12 string Hamer comfortable, so I guess it is not a matter of nut width... so maybe it is string spacing.

Personally I tend to prefer chunky fatter necks like my SX and G&L. But oddly, I also love the thin fast narrow necks on my Ibanez. And on top of that I REALLY like the wide P-bass neck on my P/J 5 er. So just when you might think that necks don't matter to me, I find I really don't care for the neck on my Fender Jazz Deluxe V. Like Lee H. says, I have no reason or logic to support why I feel this way but I do.

And contrary to most folks I just bought a cheap P/j 5er bass as a project but it came (used) with a jazz neck. I know this is what many player do their P basses, but Feh! I hate it! Now I've got to look for a nice wide P-bass 5er neck to put it right...

Jazz is what I picked up at 11, sneaking my older cousins bass. I finally got a P for Christmas 2011, I just cannot get myself to love it the way I enjoy a jazz .

I thought it has a jazz body and jazz neck but precision pickups which are also reversed so that the D and G have more beef and the A and E have more cutting tone...

...The MIA precision neck is too fat for me, but I am able to get around on it relatively well. Sidenote; is it just me or does the MIM p neck feel thinner and smaller than the MIA neck? MY friend has an MIM P and it definitely feels thinner than my MIA P...

The Mark Hoppus is definitely a precision neck. Oddly, I've seen versions with both the standard and reversed pickup arrangement. A google images search shows examples of both. I'm not sure what the story is there.

As for the MIA Vs MIM. You're probably feeling the girth of the neck. The MIM profile is much flatter compared to most MIA's which tend to be (though there are many models) a bit rounder. There may be some variation in width, but it's probably mostly due to the neck profile rather than nut width.

I have and play both regularly, and make no hand adjustments when switching between the two.

I go from a P to a Ric to an upright to a six string guitar on a fairly regular basis. Throw in an EB-2 and a fretless Thunderbird and it's a mess. In general, I prefer bigger, chunkier necks, but each one is different and there are no real rules for what feels good and what doesn't.
