Jazz neck or Precision neck. Which do you prefer and why?

P neck, all the way, and preferably 1.75" at the nut. That's the neck I started with almost 50 years ago and I still like the space it gives both on the fretboard and at the bridge. I can tolerate 1.65", but a J bass at 1.5" is just way too small.

I'm not picky. If I like it I like it and that's that.
I don't find any discomfort changing between my P-Bass, J-Bass, Grabber, L2000, EB0 copy or when playing someone else's bass.
I like the differences when changing between instruments.

I like a thick Jazz neck. I like Jazz bass string spacing, with a fat chunky profile.

J neck all the way for me. I can play on a p neck but not as fluidly. The j neck just suits my playing style more. The neck on my Geddy Lee j is to die for.

Before I started playing a 5 string exclusively, I preferred Jazz necks. Now...larger Precision neck seems more comfortable.

I've played both. And while i still want to get my hands on a white/maple MIM precision, it doesnt compare to my Eastwood precision bass copy. That neck is just great. It's not too chunky so i can play pretty fast, and not as thin as a jazz neck. And i love jazz necks.

I have no problems with either neck shape, P or J. Small hands means one should keep their thumb behind the neck, where it belongs. Nobody mentioned the bass body shape. I prefer the J body which is wider in the area where my wrist rests.

this is probably a dumb answer, but I like P necks on Ps only, and J necks on Js only. I don't like the feel of one body with the neck of the other.

that being said, if I was to do a custom build, i would have the J neck, so I probably like those better...

The precision neck doesn't bother my Repetitive stress injury as much.
My guess is due to the size, my hand is more open.

Will be switching my J to a P neck soon

They honestly feel about the same to me. I think I tend to worry more about the action than the neck width, and I feel like both are very playable. Every time I consider buying a bass I will stress about string spacing and things, but when I actually get my hands on one, it doesn't seem to make a huge difference, at least to my hands.

SOUND-wise, I probably prefer the P, although my Jazz gets plenty of love too.

I like both. I have normal sized hands (I guess) and I normally play p basses but I do like the feel of a Jazz neck after playing precisions for so long. It actually feels like I can play faster on the Jazz neck. But I still like the p bass neck also.

I definitely prefer a Jazz width neck. I even like a flat or thin profile "C" shape to the back of the neck. I ordered my Lull "54 P" with a Jazz neck and love it, even with the flats. My only bass that has a wider neck is the recently acquired pre-owned Carvin AC40. I think that has a modern P width.

I can play either, but I bought my Jaguar Deluxe based on the sweet, sweet jazz neck on it.
