This is a departure for me, in that I almost never go for the grooving, contemporary type basslines. It was a bit tricky for me, especially with the syncopated double pump on the four beat. It's not fully down in the pocket, so I'll keep working on it as a good exercise in touch.
I'm not too happy with the mix; I couldn't get the bass track EQ exactly right in Audacity, which is all I have right now. The bass is a P/J with the J heavily favored. You can hear a hint of the J growl, but it's still buried in a bit of mud. The trick is to get enough mids to make the track thump, but still keep that crispness on the top end. (Audacity doesn't let you apply EQ in real time, so you have to shoot blind and then hear the result.) The guitar tracks are fine, by my ear.
The guitar was recorded direct into a Tascam DP-008 through a Zoom G3, and the bass is direct through a Zoom B3. My little recording rig has neat symmetry that way. The drum loop is the "DnB" setting out of the Zoom.
My favorite part is the bass fill at 0:52 - nice and burpy under the mud.
