This is the first guy who comes to mind for me.If you know of any musicians who you think are unique in that way, I'd like to get some names from you. Somebody who has emerged in the last 10 or 15 years. It doesn't matter what instrument.
This is the first guy who comes to mind for me.
Robert Sput Searight - DRUMMERWORLD
No one could convince me this guy does not have all of it.
Not playing. If you can't look beyond the fact that Sput can also play really well and get the heart and feel in what he does, I have nothing else to add. We're just not going to agree no matter who I might name. Have a nice day.Yeah I know about Sput. He's one of the guys who played with Badu and Roy Hargrove. Michael League was in that bunch too and I already mentioned him in a previous post having played with Roy.
All the major influences coming from a single spot. Basically just a jazz messenger vibe and it's the only one that I know of that was current.
I guess snarky puppy kind of has that mentoring vibe, where you have different people rotating in and out. But everybody in that band is hyper educated and sometimes I just don't feel what they're doing.
Who else you got?
LOL maybe you're just misreading what I said. Because I have no idea what you're talking about with that comment. Not playing. Not really. Have a great day is code for "I'm done." I have nothing against SpinDoctor, I just can see by his response that we won't agree on any of this, so why drag it out? Not agreeing is all really kinda fine with meWell that escalated quickly

well to be honest I have no idea what that was all about so I'm perfectly okay with just letting him think whateverthe only way to settle this is with a bass-off, Davie504 style![]()
LOL, I was gonna add that I'm sure SD and I can both make music that we like, so not agreeing with someone on the internet is not going to ruin my day and I hope it doesn't ruin his, either. But I'm not going up against Davie504the only way to settle this is with a bass-off, Davie504 style![]()

I guess you took offense at my "who else you got" comment , but I was literally simply asking who else did you know about who is of that caliber. That's it. If that's not what caused your consternation then I don't know what else it could have been.
Sput is great we both know this, okay? Geeze...
Yep that's coolNope, I didn't take offense at that. It's that you guilted him by association. I know where he comes from, I know who he's played with. But I don't put him in that same category because there's something I see in his work that is more than the sum of its technical parts. Otherwise, don't you think that maybe Michael League would be a more obvious name?
This is why I don't want to discuss it, because there's something I think I see there that other people won't say they see, and if I press on this it means someone's right and someone's wrong. And how do you prove something is there when it's just an impression you have of something being greater than the sum of its parts? You really can't.
Anyone else I might name here would get the same treatment. Oh, went to so-and-so school, played with this technically brilliant band, etc. We either see the same things or we don't, and we don't, and that's perfectly fine.
Anyway, sorry if I misunderstood your point. Seemed like you were saying with some dismissal that he comes from a technically heavy place, which is true. If I had that wrong, my apologies.Yep that's cool
Yeah you did have it wrong but it's all good. It's subjective anywayAnyway, sorry if I misunderstood your point. Seemed like you were saying with some dismissal that he comes from a technically heavy place, which is true. If I had that wrong, my apologies.
No worries. I went back and re-read what you wrote and saw that I was mistaken.Yeah you did have it wrong but it's all good
