Jazz standards for studying

Hi everyone.

So I decided to take jazz lessons by the end of this year. To prepare for that I'm starting a beginning Jazz course on ScottsBassLessons. The course focus heavily on Autumn Leaves but this time around I want to focus not just around Autumn Leaves but on four or five standards at a time. It will take more time but it will be a good exercise to go through some songs by myself. This will involve do all the work covered on the course. From chord analysis to actually walking the song.

My question to you guys, is what Jazz standards would you recommend (I own a Real Book 6th edition so I already have access to a lot of charts). I've already done some work on All of Me and All the things you are. I could definitely pick one of those. Maybe one Bossa.

You should also look into the things Jamie Abersold has Jamey Aebersold Jazz: jazzbooks.com
The free book he offers is a mountain of information.

You can't go wrong with anything Ed has written. He's a great player and a natural born teacher.

It's a free course. Tomasz starts out using Autumn Leaves and works into Satin Doll. Also included in the lesson material is Giant Steps, Take the A Train, and Jazz Blues in several keys.

It's very well structured and presented.

The first 2 tunes to learn are 12 bar blues and Rhythm changes in all 12 keys.
That's 85% of the harmonic DNA in all jazz standards
