Jazz standards

I wonder which jazz standards are worthy for learning and analyzing? I want to get into it, I've learnt some music theory and I need to expand my knowledge by learning some serious song structures. I'm more into ballads.

Google real book, sixth edition and you will have jazz standard tunes in bass clef.

Some of the play alongs mentioned above have a corresponding bass book with the recorded lines written out. I know a few of the CDs Ron Carter plays on are available. No, I'm not saying this is better than transcribing.

Just to back up for a minute, could you be more specific about all of that stuff you said?
some music theory - like what? How much functional harmony are you familiar with? Secondary dominance? Modal interchange?
expand my knowledge by learning some serious song structures - I'm not sure what you mean. It's not so much about "structure" as it is harmonic function, diatonic and non-diatonic harmony.

English isn't my primary language and I learned theory on my language (georgian), I was analyzing harmony with teacher and by song structure I mean A B, A' B' C... parts in standards and how are they connected. Then lectures ended and since then I stopped and don't know how to continue my journy. can't tell how much I know in english.

if you learn to play them competently = you'll be analyzing as you learn. ballads are cool, and they are often the most difficult to play (ensemble). but learning to play the standards will inform all your playing going forward.

get the real book. get in a trio or quartet of decent/good players and have at it. you don't have to make it your 'main thing' to learn a lot!
