Jazzmaster Bass, Version 2.0

Since I've been gigging this bass since June I thought it was about time to post some pictures.

This is Version 2.0 of my Jazzmaster short scale bass built around a Squier Bronco neck.

Version 1.0 is here: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/official-short-scale-bass-club-379257/index25.html#post7823571

With each of my homebuilts I try to do something in the process that I haven't done before. Doing a dye finish quilted maple top was my exercise this time. I'll be posting a separate thread describing the dye job and link it back to this thread. Here's that link: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f57/dyeing-quilted-maple-how-810661/

Some details that aren't in the photos:

The electrical bits include a pair of CTS 250K pots, a .047 capacitor and a Switchcraft panel jack.

The Hipshot bridge is a very nice piece but I doubt I'd use it again for myself. I can set the intonation on a stock Bronco bridge without any difficulty and it's way less expensive.

The mahogany blank turned out to be very heavy; previous pieces I'd gotten from the same source were very light. Even with the large chambers the overall weight of the bass turned out to be 6 pounds, 13ounces. Version 3.0 will be much lighter.

I like the headstock shape a lot but the finish is way too plain. When I (inevitably) rebuild this bass I'm going to add a quilted ample veneer to the headstock and dye it to match the body.
