I've been asked to bring a jazz tune to the table and I'm having trouble finding something for this group... 1 Marshall half stack / Gibson SG / Semihollow guitarist, 1 Crate quarter-stack / strat guitarist, a cat on the keys, and another on the skins.... It's a jam band group and the main bands that gets toss around are Phish and Widespread Panic, I'm just kind of holding down the low end in this gig, I play more blues and jazz my grooving fits with the guys
So what jazz cover can I pull out that'll sound good with this line up?... I'm looking into stuff like Chameleon, Cantelope Island, All Blues but I'm having trouble laying something down.... I especially don't want to bastardize something like Autumn Leaves either but would like something the band can groove too.... The drummer and I'll do fine with whatever tune, he's got some decent chops and we've played some standards before just as a rhythm section between songs and downtime in practice....
Suggestions?
