JB has major hum

I'm new to the bass and just got my first one, a '93 JB MIJ. It's a beautiful instrument and in great shape. But, after only a few minutes of playing there was a LOUD hum. I know it's the bass because it happened with two different amps with two different cords.

Any ideas? Worse case scenario, what am I looking at as far as cost? The bass cost $550. Should I just return it? I bought it on eBay.

so it was fine for a while, then the hum started?

it's likely a broken wire connection inside the bass, which is easy to fix for somebody who knows what they're doing.

Thanks. Yeah, it was fine for about 30 seconds and then it started to hum. It got a little better when I placed my finger on the control panel of the bass, but after a minute that didn't even help and the hum got worse. I like the bass so I think that I'll get it fixed rather than return it.

Yup, sounds like a loose connection.
