jbass vs pbass

J-bass is supposed to fill out with more notes in a rapid succession. Think jabs in boxing terms. Thin neck is usually more comfortable to play fast.

P-Bass is more of a "wall of sound." Less notes and they take longer to get there, but they hit a lot harder. Thick neck also supports "pocket play."

Really all preference though, and they're both decently versatile.

Funny that you describe them that way because that's really how I approach playing them. I have a P-bass and 2 J-basses. When I'm playing my P-bass, for some reason I play as if there's more force behind the notes, that they're heavier than my J basses. On the other hand, when I'm on one of my J basses, I play as if the notes can cut through just about anything, like I can throw out a thousand notes a minute and I know it'll still sound edgy and bright. Don't know if that all makes sense, but it's about as close to how I approach the two as I can get. :bassist:

It's obvious that a Precision Jazz double-neck needs to be in the works...Fender get on it!

I just got mine in Midnight Wine...
