JBL EON 515XT for Bass?

Has anyone tried one of these as a stand alone bass amp. I'm thinking I can just go straight from My VT Bass pedal.

We use two of those and a 18" eon sub as our PA which I play through frequently. I have played straight into one as a stand alone and have heard another bassist using a 10" version in a small venue. Very impressive. Small, light, very portable. Our drummer has used one with his electronic kit with good results.

I have used the older Eon models for floor wedges as well as light duty PA.
They always seemed very light on the bass and a tad dull in the highs. However with EQ they sounded great.
Not sure about the newer models whether they are better or worse. Overall I have lot of respect fo JBL pro, though I would look elsewhere for bass specific powered enclosure if you are avers to hauling a subwoofer. Most of those Eon cabs are designed to cover the vocal range of music, not bass guitar.

i use a mackie srm 350 monitor as a practice/song writing amp... it isn't perfect, but it's practical. i don't like it without a preamp pedal (ie; bddi), and it is harsh with distortion (i don't really like horns for bass).
i know it is a different monitor than you brought up, but it's in the same ballpark.

I agree with the bad shape. I know they are really made to go up on poles so I can't fault them, but we sometimes play on small stages and I work the PA mixer so it would be nice to have a cabinet with a flat top as a mixer table. It could also work as a seat at jam sessions. I'm also considering these two for that reason:

I'm going to try to hit guitar center on Saturday with my VTBass and P5 to see what they sound like. I hope the let me set this up.

I use this type of box as a bass amp for the last 10 years.
I now use RCF products and before , I used a Mackie SRM450.

Those plastic boxes are not created equally , some sound really bad. These EON are the best JBL offering so far. Sounds better than the previous G2 (plastic black). The G1 (plastic grey) were atrocious , very very bad.

I say go for it. The last line of the spec is what's the most impressive for me. That kind of sound quality/power for that weight , you couldn't find anything like that in the "bass" world.

So i went to Guitar Center today and set up my VT Bass and plugged it into the 515XT. Nope it's just not going to do it. I played my Fender P5 with TI jazz flats. It was loud, but thin with more boom than punch no mater how I tweaked the VT bass. The real deal breaker was a rattle when I played an E at high volumes. It wouldn't rattle on any other notes just the E. I moved the cabinet around and still had the problem. I could hear it through the vents. That Cabinet is amazingly light weight. I really wish it worked, but it just doesn't have the punch that I need. I also tried the prx615M. Same problem with the E. It had a more refined sound than the 515, but the 515 is probably better for bass.

Oh well back to my Schroeder 1515L and GK1001RBII. Still the best that I have found.
