Jaco was interviewed by Guitar World magazine in about 1982 for a cover story. In this article he was quited as saying "I'm just a bad impersonator of Jerry Jemmott."
I like to think that if you can impress Jaco with your bass playing, you are good
My favorite recording of Jerry is the King Curtis album "Live at Fillmore West", the way Jerry and the band groove on the first track (Memphis Soul Stew) hooked me !
He mostly played Jazz basses with flats in the 60s and 70s.

I saw him with Greg Allman, a few weeks ago, he was playing a FMT Jazz, and a Custom Bass I have'nt seen before but there is a pic of him with it on his website, it was a great show

I almost did not go to the show, I ran into a freind the day of the show, and he gave me two tickets that someone gave his wife, and she did not want to go. Lucky Me
They did a few covers one was Turn on your love light, I saw Greg about 10 yrs ago, Still sounds good, I think I prefer to see him solo over The Allman Bros, saw them once, to many long drawn out jams

Other than instructional videos, I really don't know much about his discography and background.
Jerry comes to Madison every year as a clinician in Richard Davis's Young Bassists program, an intensive weekend for kids to learn from some of the best bass talent in the country. It is entirely double bass oriented, except for Jerry with his electric. There is always a kids concert and a clinicians concert which is unbelievable. Solos, duos, trios and ensembles, it's all bass, all night.
Jerry solo'd 'Georgia' on electric. Rufus Reid just improvised. Christian McBride did a great version of Les McCann's 'Cold Duck Time'. Imagine the sound of 16-20 virtuoso double bassists working out together as one. Wow!

The Aretha and King Curtis Live CD are two of my all time favorite albums, especially the King Curtis. Jemmot and Purdie are playing their asses off.
You look up Funk in the dictionary you should see a picture of Jerry Jemmot!

jerry is now touring with greg allman. anyway seen that show? i'm not a big allmans fan, but im thinking about going anyway just to see jerry.
The video of the excellent Aretha/King Curtis gig at the Fillmore has Jerry sitting in front of a Acoustic 360, he probably played through a lot of rigs in his time.
+1 on those King Curtis/ Aretha albums though, I wore them out as a kid. That whole band was special!!!
Me too - I found the King Curtis album the other day and it's killer. I also got a rude shock - there is a great funk version of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" done by the acid jazz artist Goldbug
... or so I thought until I heard the Fillmore sessions and found out they had covered King Curtis' version of it!
