Well, I'm surely not a fan of Scientology, but IMO that disc is pretty cool... very unique 'fusion' of modern Flamenco-style playing with Chick's 'My Spanish Heart' era.... very nice IMO. I saw the tour and it was stunning. However, difficult listening, and obviously, if you don't like it.. you don't like it.

In the spirit of you post, a more 'traditional' context to hear Carles in is Paco Delucia's 'Across America' (I think that's the title) live CD... pretty nice. Although, Carles did not have the Drozd on that tour.

Yeah,I think that it's a great record. Definitely different than my favorite Chick Corea records, but it is fast becoming one.

As to slapping on a hollowbody: I brought my Hofner to an impromptu jam. I never get to play it, and decided that this was the perfect oppurtunity. Someone asked to sit in and I agreed. Halfway into it, he starts slapping...Abusing my Hofner in the worst way. Not only was it The worst sound you can want, Hofners aren't meant to handle bad slap technique. I took the bass back, and didn't let anyone else play all night. It's OK to borrow my gear, but don't beat on it.

That does look much better. I actually think it's mostly a cool design, but I reckon a regular single-cut (eighty-six the JEM handle) would make it that much cooler.

Oh my! Add a string, make the string spacing slightly more narrow, shorten the scale length to about 30", and then watch me GAS like there's no tomorrow.
