Jerzy Drozd Club

I've been in contact with Jerzy and for some reason, black hardware was actually simply not available at all. However, he says he has that figured out and will be sending me a complete set of replacement parts to swap out (and return the gold stuff.) That's machines, ferrules, cavity covers, bridge, and tailpiece. I'm a happy camper. :)

Congrats, that would visually be the cherry on the cake!

Funny you should say that... at the gig last night I also took a J type bass and I noticed immediately how the Jerzy kinda' hugged me, and reminded me of the Spectors I've played.

I've always been a fan of Warwick Thumbs and Streamers for that same quality (and their tone). I silently suspect that Jerzy has been quite influenced by Warwick for the visuals of his basses, certainly when you see Jerzy's earlier work. And of course Warwick and Spector design share some history... :-)

I can add that the neck of my Excellency is definately the classic Jerzy D profile (like Vic's Classic): by far the most comfortable neck I've ever played! Of course I'm interested in the new alternative profile too, just out of curiosity, but that flat "thumb-ramp" suits me perfectly.
It weighs about 4,5 kilo's: not heavy at all, but not as superlight as Vic's Excellency. Lighter is of course always better (the rest being equal), but no complaints though, as it balances perfectly on a strap.

Congrats on your order Luis1962!
Now I'm glad again I got me a stock bass, as 10 to 14 months must take a heavy toll on anyones patience. I'm sure it will be worth it though!
Schlyder, isn't your bass nearing completion? I'm already looking forward to that one!

Did anyone get a chance to try Jerzey's new 33" scale basses at NAMM? What did you think?

The one Drozd I've played had an incredibly comfortable neck...one of the best I've played.

If you are referring to the new "Oracle" bass, I'm very interested in this information myself. I'm wondering how it compares to the "Barcelona" model. I was just over at LAG checking out some of Jerzy's sweet basses...online that is :crying: :D

Getting close. :hyper:
Things were held up a bit with NAMM, and waiting for some wood blanks to finish drying in the kiln.
I actually just selected the top and back blanks last week.
Not sure on the finish date yet. We were shooting for the end of March, but that may be pushed back a bit to April.
I am GASing for it so bad though. Time just drags. :bawl: LOL

I found on youtube some nice music with great bass player on Drozd bass, enjoy:

Yeah I got to play it at NAMM... It was funny when I asked Darren and JD about what the controls were, Jerzy had to go and get his reference sheet. It has the 4-band Pope pre (which is Killer). I love the feel of the neck, but the strings were just a tad too close for me (probably 17.5 or 18mm) and I could have used the p/ups being farther apart. The craftmanship is stellar (as always) and that shape is beautiful.

Hey, all you Jerzy clubbers!

Any of you feeling like you may want to sell your Jerzy 6 string? I'm not looking for Barcelonas or single pickup instruments, but I might consider a 5 also. But I'm really holding out for a 6, because I want to replace the Warwick Streamer Stage 1 6-string that I have - the neck is just too big for my taste, and I like a tighter string spacing.

I came back from Europe a couple months ago, wherein I was able to visit Barcelona, and Jerzy's shop! I started emailing him a couple weeks before I left, and he totally came through and took a whole hour out of his day to just show me around his shop, talk bass/music/passion/luthiery with me, and let me play a couple instruments. I'm kinda hooked now. What a cool guy, cool concepts, and cool instruments. I want one!

I know there's a Soul VI at Luthier's Access right now, but I'm not totally loving its look, and I'm trying to find one more in the second hand price range. Might even trade that Warwick (a 1990 in EXCELLENT shape, btw) if anyone's interested. Thanks!

I recently acquired this from Dr. Carver. He ordered it for me several years ago, so I let him keep it until I had time to use it.

Several other pictures are available from the TB sale posting at http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f126/fs-jerzy-drozd-custom-mastery-5-fretless-719203/

It looks much better in person; photographing a dark bass with subtle coloring while trying to minimize reflections is a daunting task.

P.S. I would like #26. That has been my luck number all my life, so far.
