Jerzy Drozd vs Roscoe

Hi guys, i've decided to sell off 2 of my basses to fund either a jerzy drozd excellency V or a roscoe SKB 3005. As i'm located in singapore, and there aren't any dealers here, i'm probably gonna have to buy it without any prior testing. Was hoping you guys could let me know more about these basses (all the pro's and con's) and if you have any soundclips, i'd be most appreciative. Feel free to offer other bass suggestions though, just that out of all the basses i've seen, these two have really caught my eye.

I own the Drozd and an LG-3005, and for me, I'd give the Drozd a very slight edge. I like its punchiness and versatility of tone. However, the Roscoe has a deeper, slightly more bassy tone, so if you like that, I'd go with the Roscoe. Craftsmanship on each is superb, as you can see in the photos below.

I would throw Sei bass www.seibass.cominto the ring and suggest that you give them a serious look. However a bass at this level is a very personal thing and I would say any of them could fit the bill.

Perhaps give each one a ring and see which builder you click with and who understands your requirements. You do not want a builder that forces you to compromise your dream but one that will work with you to fulfil it.

I've played both and fell in love with each one. I ended up buying a Jerzy because it felt a little more "me" at the time. If I were in the market and had to make a similar decision, it'd be a tough one, though I'd probably still choose a Jerzy. I could easily see a Roscoe in my future, however.

To me, Keith Roscoes' basses are very tight and punchy, while Jerzy has a little more warmth. One thing I like about Jerzy is that his basses are a little more "custom" feeling, a little more diverse and versatile. I've also played about 4 Roscoes in my life, whereas I've played about 20 Jerzys, so that may have something to do with it.

The bass I bought, a Jerzy Mastery, is a 34" scale 6 string with a low B that is every bit on par with Keith's famous low B. The thing about this bass of mine, though, is that it plays incredibly smoothly and sounds incredible. I have never found a bass that's quite as nice as this one is in my hands, though there was a Roscoe that Gard once showed me that was pretty close.

Jerzy gets the nod from me, but you can't go wrong, either way.

hey munji, awesome basses u have got there. i usually prefer the JD's look anyday but your roscoe seems to have outdone a JD for once. btw anyone got clips of a Drozd in slap pop action? im dying to hear.

I've never played a Drozd so I guess that I can't provide an A/B comparison but I have owned 9 Roscoe's with number 10 (SKB 3005) on the way.
The Roscoe's are by far my favorite bass out there. I've owned Tobias (pre-Gibson), F-Bass, MTD 535, Elrick, Alembic, Pedulla & Lakland and tried vertially everything else out there....... IMO the Roscoe is simply the best of the best. Roscoe's quality is currently better than it's ever been and the options offered are more varied/versatile than they've ever been.
It sounds like the Drozd is also a fine bass but for me the search for perfection has ended. If you buy a Roscoe I promise that you won't be disappointed!;)
