Band leader recently purchased our tickets for an upcoming cross country gig and to my dismay he got the "budget economy" tickets for Jetblue. This ticket states *no carry-on allowed*. They do not even offer an option to pay extra for a carry on bag. After speaking with an agent they could only offer a $170 (each way) upgrade ticket which includes a carry on bag. No thanks. So you're only allowed to check an instrument with Jetblue?
I've flown extensively with guitars and always have no problem bringing a gig-bag and carrying on with Delta, American, etc. I either ask to put it in the 1st class coat closet or find space in an above bin. This is my first time encountering an airline that simply says economy fair tickets can't have carry on bags at all.
However, the guitarist in another one of my bands says he recently flew with Jetblue with budget economy tickets and had no problem! He walked up to the gate desk, asked about his guitar and was allowed to board early to put it in the 1st class coat closet free of charge.
So... Do any of you have experience flying with Jetblue and bringing guitars?
