Double Bass Jim Hall Live in Tokyo 1976

I came across this recently in a stack of LPs I hadn't thought about in quite a while. The playing is excellent and I realized listening to Don Thompson that this is the sound I'm trying to get as part of my current goal of playing less forcefully with lighter strings while still achieving good reasonably natural amplified tone. it's worth checking out.

Yeah, that is a fantastic bass sound, as is the 1975 "....Live!" recording at Bourbon Street, in Toronto.
This might have something to do with it:
Thompson also served as a recording engineer for several of the Bourbon Street performances, including the 1975 Paul Desmond performances that resulted in the albums Live

Maybe ? I don't know, I had a CD of the bootleg cassettes that Don Thompson gave to Unka PeeDub that he dubbed for me.
Not sure where the Ed Bickert comment is coming from, I know Don recorded some of the gigs he did with Ed at Bourbon St. but...
