Jim Rome like him or hate him?

I like the show and every time I listen to him, he is pretty much ripping on someone. Today it was Deon Sanders for his attempts to mentor other players in new contracts or what ever. I think most of the time he just tells it like it is, but there is certainly no in between here with him. You either like him or hate him, but he has been on for a while, so he must have enough followers to keep the show where it is. I would really be surprised if he does not have more enemies out there waiting to take a shot at him for his in your face commentary.:hmm:

I don't love him or hate him though I don't ever really listen to him.

When I have listened to his show I've found his callers annoying. Mostly because they've all adopted his slang and style of "humor" which is why I imagine he labels his listeners "clones".

As for enemies based on his "in your face commentary" the fact is that he really isn't a guy that asks any hard hitting questions. Every interview I've seen with him has been a softball piece. He only goes after guys he knows he won't have on his show. And the one time he did mock a guy to his face (Jim Everrett) he ended up looking like a scared, bratty kid.

As far as I can tell, after that incident he stopped trying to ever be confrontational with guests, in person or on the phone.

I listened to him once or twice and was appalled at how rude he is to callers. He comes off as a self-important ass and I WILL NOT listen to him.

I called the radio station and spoke with the program director - he said that no one over 35 listens to Rome - his demographic is all younger.

I haven't found his show on the dial for a few years, and as far as I'm concerned that's great. He is one of the worst examples of "broadcasting" I've ever heard...and I have a lot of years in that industry.

Love him. His radio show is by far my favorite radio show regardless of genre (sports, news, etc.). I find him to be very entertaining and is usually spot on in his assessments. His radio show is one of the biggest talk shows in the nation (sports or otherwise) so I don't see him going anywhere.

His TV show is just a watered down version of his radio show, so I don't really watch it that much. ESPN is much more strict on what he's allowed to say, it seems.

Pilgrim - He only rips on callers who have poor, weak arguments. If you call into the show wanting to get on the air you better have a good idea of what you're talking about, because if he doesn't rip on you, the mass amount of emailers will.

I just looked at the youtube clip. I gotta say that at first, I had to do a double take of Jim, without the now facial hair etc, also you could tell thing were heating up, what took his bodyguards/staff so long to get in the mix before the table was flipped.

So what was the final result of that confrontation?

And letting Jim Everrett punk him like that just shows it to be true.

He's not "hard hitting", as a matter of fact, he's too busy running to hit anything.

;)

Sports is a masculin testosterone filled world. Ripping on people and athletes is a part of the game. If you cant take the heat, then go home and dont come back.

Rome is Burning
thats only a recent thing and rude moron sport casters are part of the reason....there was a time when sports included sportsmanship instead of steroids.......money has ruined a lot of games.....here minor hockey teams do not shake hands after games because of poor sports who can't lose with dignity and feel they have to
trash talk the winners or take a swing in the hall way

sports was a place where young people learned how to get along in the world.....there is,or should be more to it than a score card or a point spread.....

Agreed. Its really sickening to watch adults set such poor examples whenever they are in front of a camera or crowd. No wonder the kids are starting to act this way as well, even on a high school and Jr high school level, kids are showing really poor skills in communications on and off the field.

Did you watch the clip?

Unless he's a former jockey I think it's safe to say he wasn't an athlete on any level, let alone a pro.

Well, I admit...I know little about these kinda sports.
But isn't it almost a prerequisite to have been a player himself to be a commentator?

Donny Gay was a world champion bull rider, Madden a football player.
I'd be inclined to listen to their opinions rather than just some guy who never even played !!!

All the sports I like, drag racing, motorcycles etc. are commented on by actual former or present racers. It only makes sense.
Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about, but I'd have a hard time taking someone seriously who criticizes and never even played.
Just my observation.
