My Pleasure. I see Vulfpeck/FF/etc as being like a new Steely Dan - the guys are all super smart and they can play anything, plus they have respect for the great musicians and great music that has gone before them. And of course they can all play like crazy. What's not to like, right?
Their youth and the excessively broad musical horizons from which they draw. It’s too much for some people to stomach.

Hmm, I never considered that, I was (and am) just blown away by their sheer musicality. Does that mean that some people are simply jealous of their youth and ability, as in "those dang kids are too smart for their own good!" kind of a thing?
I would agree, he has bought a degree of musicality to his bass playing that is rare. Plus his signature solo, 'Deantown', is an homage to Jaco's own 'Teentown'.
I appreciate that he is largely a finger funk stylist. A true bassist who took it up at a young age. He's still young, and lists influences such as Flea, Pino, Rocco, and Bernard Edwards. It is obvious to me listening to his playing that he has assimilated a wide range of music and bassists from the era that should be right in Talkbass's wheelhouse. Sometimes I get the feeling that he is being damned with faint praise around here. He is a champion of the bass. It is amazing the crowd reactions he gets and it's because he has put the bass out front with his tremendous skill and showmanship. Just like that Fearless Flyers clip. He gets the biggest applause.
Check out his Deantown solo at MSG, the crowd is singing along with it! Never ever seen that before!
I'm a Joe Dart fan, simply because I'm a fan of great bass playing.
That's all basically true, except IMO these bands do not seem to have figured out how to write good songs yet. I love Joe Dart's playing and enjoy watching the band's videos, but none of the actual tunes from these groups seem to stick with me other than a few of the instrumentals (e.g. Dean Town, Disco Ulysses, which not coincidentally are heavy on bass hooks).
Good point - while they do some very cool stuff musically not many tracks are actual standouts from a songwriting perspective. Let's hope that they can remedy that soon.
