Cleared up the mystery with them this evening: several years ago I bought just one year of the Foundations course, and it simply expired! That's all!

That's my reluctance. The 2 year course sounds great, but you have 2 years to complete it. No room for life, apparently.

No, it's lifetime access if I'm not mistaken.
All the courses I see on the current Black Friday Sale page say "lifetime access".

Am I missing something? I went just to take a look at the course offerings out of curiosity and while I could buy a course easily enough, there was no information about what was in any of the courses.

At the bottom of that black friday sale page, or the home page, there are links to the various courses.
Click one of those.
Then about halfway down the page, after normal marketingspeak, there's a list of course contents (at least for "Foundation" and "2-Year").

I've bought basically all of his courses, and have gone through virtually none of them. The guy's good at marketing, and as far as online content goes, it's among the best. But I'm at a stage where I really should just be playing. I'm over-educated as it is.

I hear you. I have a lot of books that I felt never took me very far. I think it's about the quality and not the quantity. With just the two Joe Hubbard courses, Foundation and Mastery, I can donate all my books to the local high school and get on with playing bass while holding on by my fingernails at the depth of content.

Thanks for this reminder, @MochaFiend! I've been playing "my way" for years. I say "playing," I could say "struggling." I bought lifetime access to his Foundation course... going to learn this thing all over again.

I'm not in buying mode right now (i just signed up for another course), but I checked it out to see if maybe something I do in the future. Course looks great, but not sure why he only accepts Paypal. Their euro to dollar conversion rate is horrible. The official rate is 0.95 Euro per $ today. Paypals rate is 0.75, which raise the cost (and Paypal's profit) by over $100.

That's an interesting perspective. Conversely, for me, $675 is about 5 months of in-person lessons. Everyone's idea of value will differ.

I can tell you that the biggest thing I have seen so far in the courses is structure. He explains a concept, demonstrates the concept, and gives you "homework" for the following week of lessons (and imo, a week is not long enough to master what he offers on a weekly basis). One of the things I've hated about most instrument methods is the tendency to show you a lesson and leave you on your own to work out what and how to practice. The lessons from Joe Hubbard don't suffer from this problem. He gives you very explicit exercises, instructions on how to practice, and what value you're taking away from the lesson. For me, I honestly feel like this is the first time in several instruments where I am legitimately learning BASS, like it's becoming an extension of my being rather than something I "do".

I wish I could provide a sample lesson to just show you -- the materials, as presented, don't exist in other bass methods or online lessons that I have seen, including SBL, BB, and TB. That said, I simply prefer the Hubbard approach, which is adult-oriented, no-nonsense instruction.

The list of world-class musicians who've learned from Joe Hubbard is kind of astounding. Of course, we're not all Pino Palladino, but hey -- we can at least wade in the same pool where he built his chops.

I bought and went through the foundations and mastery courses. Great material in both.
I liked it enough that I’m now taking 1 on 1 zoom lessons with him.

He is an excellent teacher. He studied with Charlie Banacos, so he comes from that school of thought - Learn your basics rigorously and don’t take any short cuts. In this respect, his thinking seems similar to Jeff Berlin, another good educator and Banacos disciple. But Joe is less, um, rigid/volatile. I’m 9 lessons in, and I’m getting a lot out of it in terms of fingerboard knowledge, rhythm, and technique. I also feel my sound is better and I’m learning to really listen to my own playing. I’ve just gotten though bebop scale exercises for major and dominant chords, and now starting on applying those to V7-I progressions.

I’m not a fan of the marketing, but this is the world we live in. I am definitely a fan of his teaching.
