Joe Zon & Michael Manring @ Bass San Diego

Hey all you guys in TB land! There was enough disorganized discussion on the topic that I decided it needed its own thread, so without further delay:

On the 21st (a week from tomorrow as of this post) Michael Manring and Joe Zon are coming down to do a clinic/concert/Q&A presentation from 1:00-4:00 pm. The first hour Joe will talk about his instruments, bass tech, etc., followed by an hour-long set from Mike, followed by an hour of Q&A stuff.

It'll be held in the recital space above Bass San Diego (6255 Ferris Square, San Diego, CA 92121) and should be an awesome little event with swag and the like. You can check out the shop downstairs and certainly the Zon demos axes. We hope to meet more area bassists, and we want to fill the room, so bring your buddies if you can make it!

MAN! I WISH I wasnt 3000 miles away on the wrong coast!

We had Michael at the NE GTG back in late June and he was phenomenal!! Not only his bass-playing though, he's also a wonderfully humble, soft-spoken, pleasant person. A genuinely nice guy!!

All you left-coasters should make sure you attend this event-you will not be disappointed!!!

BSD's got some Zons coming in, too. Also, FYI, we finally have a Lakland and Sadowsky dealer in San Diego! They have a nice selection of Elrick and Tobias basses, too. Rennaissance and some really nice used basses, too. Get over there.

Thank You Bass San Diego and staff for putting the event on. I love listening and seeing fellow bassists who are not strictly tied to the antiquated concept of a limited role of bass, but rather in pursuit of the vast expanse of possibility's inherent in the instrument.

I eagerly look forward to more events like this and the upcoming GTG.

It was a phenomenal event, intimate and personal. Michael took us on some musical journeys that won't be forgotten. Much of the music had a world feel to it, and his technique surpasses that of even the most technical players. He gave us a lot of insight into his background, influences, and personal motivation.

Joe Zon gave a history of how he came to be one of the finest luthiers around, and showed us how he produces his basses, of which there were several superb examples on hand.

Like many people of their caliber whom I've met, they are both very friendly and generous with their time. It was a fantastic experience all around.

Thanks to Chris and George for hosting us. There was no charge to the attendees for this very rare opportunity to meet two of the icons of our passion. I recommend that you drop by Bass San Diego when you're in town. They are building an inventory of many of the finest bass brands around, including Zon, Sadowsky, Lakland, Elrick, Salas, and Turner. Think about it ... these basses are now available in San Diego.
