John East vs Audere Audio Preamps?

In this thread, I recorded example of my jazzbass passive vs audere JZ. After some time with Audere, I can say that the abilities of instant sound tweaking are awesome. All the tone corrections are on the right frequencies, the sound is absolutely clear and in general everything I can need in live situation is right there. I even started to like the Z button, which after reprogramming adds the 'very vintage' and 'very slappy' sound. The battery works for about half a year of more or less daily usage.
What I lack is the passive button. Not for 'battery died on a gig' situation, but for a reference how the bass originally sounded. The passive sound and Audere sound is in my experience significantly different - Audere sounds clearer, more contemporary, accenuating any frequency I want, in gereal more than suitable for modern jazz I mostly play. The original passive was more growly, rocky, biting though; I needed good amp, box and stomp boxes to really get the sound I wanted. With Audere, I can securely play straight to link, which I use for practise.
I'll keep Audere and won't be looking for anything else.

I had a J-retro about 15 years ago. It was a revolutionary product then and very well received. I bought one though and found that I could not live with the sound. It has a built in bass shelf boost that you cannot dial out. At first it is pleasing, but in a band mix it was too dark for my taste.

I have had two Audere preamps. The four band and the two band with Z mode. The four band sounds great, musical and I love what the Z mode does. It is a very natural bass presence that works well for me. The four band preamp is too much knob twiddling for me. The two band turned out to be perfect for my needs. Bass and Treble controls are just right. Combined with Z mode switching, It gives me a lot of options without too much fiddling. When I am playing, I like to think about notes and dynamics and get in a zone. Fiddling puts me in an analytical space that is bad for my performance.
