John Patitucci CD must haves?

Hi,
I just saw a bass instructional video by John Patitucci and liked what he did.I also realized that I don't have a single one of his solo CDs.
There seem to be a lot of them.I just want to get a couple CDs by him.
Which ones are the ones that stand out as being particularily good?
I tend to like funky jazzy groove type of music more than super pyrotechnics or new agey stuff.

For electric, my favorite CD of his is Mistura Fina. For DB, I like Now and One More Angel

It might not fit the bill but my favourite record with Patitucci on is the Chick Corea Elektric Band record.

From your described preference, On the Corner would probably be the place to start, along with the Elektric band recordings.

I totally dig Mistura Fina... kind of modern Brazilian/jazz fusion... wonderful! Heart of the Bass is one of the most unique recordings I've heard... jazz bass (electric and DB) in a symphonic context... interesting. 'Now' is my favorite straight-ahead recording by John.

I happen to think his first CD which is self titled might fit what you're looking for....

I happen to think Sketchbook is pretty good as well, although not all that funky/jazzy, it's got some good compositions...

I just grabbed the Akoustic Band Live at the Blue Note Tokyo and it's KILLER. John Patittuci, Chick Corea and Vinnie Colaiuta. It's hard to get at a reasonable price in North America - I bought mine off ebay from someone in Japan. GREAT record...

The first electric band disc from waaaaayyyy back is a good one. Got a Match is one of those tunes with a bass feature that floored me. Around that time I also saw the band live at a free concert in Toronto and Patittuci really opened my ears as to what was possible on a bass. Not that I'm anywhere nearer to where he is now but the way he hears things is beyond me but fascinating.

The first time I heard "Humpty Dumpty" from that record...I laughed almost the whole way through. Sorry, but it seemed Corea & Patitucci were not ready for the Vinnie onslaught.

...nice combination of electric & acoustic tracks. Funky to Swinging to Bop-ish.

Now is a very good straightahead JP album.

Then there's some Latin-esque stuff with Mistura Fina & Another World.

How about Footprints Live! by Wayne Shorter (w/ Brian Blades, Danilo Perez, & Patitucci). Great!

Another World is very cool. Heavily steeped in African rhythms and harmonies.

I thought his first solo album was really his best, along with the first Elektric band album.

He was still playing a Ken Smith back then, which I think sounds better than the Yamaha Sig.

My favorite jazz disc of his has to be "Now". I love "Heart of the Bass" for the classical stuff he throws in there. Another great jazz disc that he plays a sideman on is "Got My Mental" by Steve Khan that features John quite a bit, and also Michael Brecker's "Pilgrimage" (Brecker's swansong).

That is a nice record.

There are also a couple of GRP All-Star Big Band things with JP.

TUMBA! That song is crazy from that CD!

Anyways, Eye of the Beholder from the Elektric Band is nice! I also think Beneath the Mask was great. The writing/improv is insane on Inside Out as well...
