Johnny Christ's Tone

How would I get close to Johnny's tone (he's the bassist from Avenged Sevenfold) I think the bass sounds wicked awesome, I know part of that is his musicman but what amp settings should I use? Like at the end of Blinded in Chains or the verses of Brompton Cocktail

Use a bass with an MM pickup in the bridge position through a Gallien-Krueger head. Boost knob way up for that growl, lots of highs and mids.
Johnny uses heavy-gauge Slinky strings with a pick. That all should get you close.

the only real way to get that tone is with a music man, GK amp, and some overdrive sorry man.

The end of blinded in chains (which is awesome) is actually an 8 string bass with a chorus effect so that would be even harder to emulate

He doesn't use that much in terms of FX. 99 percent of his tone is the Music Man basses with thick gauge strings, played with a pick, into a GK amp with a Sansamp RBI in front of it for the extra grind.
