I saw Jonathan Herrera's recent video post of 18 basses on 1 track and was blown away and thought what a great idea! () Great to hear different basses playing the same track, so I told him we should turn it into the #jonherrerabasschallenge

I went though all my gear the last few days and came up with my own '17 basses on 1 track' and read along with the same Jamerson track that I had from my 'Standing in the Shadows of Motown' instructional book/cd that I worked out of years ago.

My recording is just live clips from my iPhone and edited on basic windows10 editor so not as great quality as his. But it was interesting to play and hear the different instruments I have playing on the same track, maybe some of you can do the same recording even if just a few instruments on part of the track. I can take a photo of the sheet music if anyone wants and dm to you.

i would never have thought to do something like that --- neat idea, great playing, great collection of axes! and it's not insignificant re: your video editing chops!

ha thanks! Editing is the hardest part, especially just generic W10 photo editor what a pain!

@sobie18 you should do a vid too, you could prob do just one measure per bass in your collection

What strings did you use on your Kala?

That's a '68 Gibson EB2d that I had a p pickup installed and old holes filled, refin and refret, done by John Wescott guitar repair in Hollywood, great bass!

The Kala strings is a funny story, I've owned that since they came out, maybe 10yrs ago? Still had the same black rubber strings on it, I tuned it up and was playing a bit and the A string snapped right in the middle. I had no replacement strings, didn't want to wait a few days to get some in the mail so I found some bronze rounds that were originally on my Warwick Alien so I used those. But I'd rather have the rubber strings, the bronze go out of tune super easy when pressing on the frets and the intonation is just strange overall with them on it.
