I was listening to an album by Phil Upchurch called Lovin' Feeling and the bass was so great I had to search him out. I was happy to find this thread.

Nice record I have that LP. Phil also is a great bassist.

Lucky is one of my favorite players. Even when I was a kid, the bass line in "Freddie's Dead" (particularly the 45/radio edit, which was the only one I heard for a long time) really grabbed me. Fantastic feel and tone.

I'm listening to the Super Fly soundtrack for the 100'th time today. Man, I love this guy's finger style grooves. The right notes at the right time. The feel is perfection.

Curtis Live is a desert island disc. That band with Lucky Scott at the helm is SO killing. And thise great Curtis studio albums. Glad this thread is here. Not sure if this clip has been featured but the band plays their asses off here

Thanks for posting this. Probably the best footage of Joseph Lucky Scott that I’ve ever seen. Nice close up ***** of his bass and his hands. Gives an idea into his technique and playing style.
What a brilliant mind Curtis Mayfield had. A poet and a messenger. His guitar playing and songwriting are so under rated . Look how relevant his music is for times such as these .
