not to hijack, but i'm too lazy to do a search and i'm curious as to who played on "freddie's dead"
Go here and scroll down http://www.soulwalking.co.uk/Where Are They.htmlIve not really come across to much information or talk of Joseph Scott. He was the bassist with Curtis MAyfield and he could really groove on the bass. I only have a best of Curtis but Im still impressed by his grooves . I think his main bass was a Fender Jazz.

I was just watching some video clips and saw that Scott had a Gibson-style humbucker added to his bass right next to the neck. The only other person Ive seen do this is Doug Rauch (Santana , Lenny White , Bill Cobham).
If this clip has Scott playing it's not a humbucker but just a shiny sticker:

I picked up a Curtis Mayfield Anthology disc today, they were playing it at a used record store. Anyway, I should know this but who played on his stuff, like "Pusherman", So in Love" and "Only You Man"? Classic textbook Funk lines, Great stuff. Also, who played on the Impressions stuff?
Before "Lucky" joined Curtis Mayfield, he played with a band, I think from Alabama named the "Soul Chargers". The soul chargers were a "live" bunch of dudes off of the stage but when they were on the stage, they would kill every other group around. I read somewhere Lucky was playing with a gospel group on a gig, got sick and passed away. When I joined Stevie Wonder on my first gig, in 1970 in Birmingham, Alabama, the "Soul Chargers" were the opening group for the gig. Lucky was "baddd". Later
Scott
I remember a good friend from Chicago (bass player) who work with a few artist on Curtom in the mid to late '70. He knew Lucky Scott. I asked him about Lucky Scott's sound. I remembered Curtis' "Hell Below" and how the bass had a growled fuzz kind of sound. It was slightly distorted but not totally in rock kind a way. He said he was sure Lucky did not use pedals but thought was his amp (Fender). He was't sure if it was modified or just broken but it sounded good!
