Josh Wah vs Mu-Tron IV

Have both, and the Josh Wah is what lives on my most often used pedal board.

Sounds spectacular and is incredibly easy to dial in on the fly.

Mutron IV is also a great sounding pedal, but a little less intuitive and takes a bit more work to dial in.

Have had both, liked both, would be happy with either, but if I needed a filter in that form factor right now I'd go for the Mutron.

Yeah I have a micro tron. yep it's a bit difficult to dail in for every bass you have, but once you dail it in its fantastic!

Had both. Josh wah is my favorite filter pretty Much ever. It’s just super easy to dial in and sounds good pretty much everywhere. Can’t say the same about the mutron. I do with the JW had a few more things but apparently Josh is working to remedy that.

I'm going to go the opposite direction and say that I preferred the Microtron. Although I didn't have them at the same time, I recall the Microtron IV being greasier. People rave about the Joshwah being easy to dial in, and I agree, but the Microtron is equally easy -- low range, low pass mode, volume to taste, and then it's just gain and peak. I had the Microtron for a long time but moved it when I got a Xerograph Deluxe, which ended up not being a great fit for my current band. My main filter these days is a Meatball clone, but recently I've wanted a small box filter to have available for small board builds, and among things I liked and were easily available, it was down to these two pedals, and I went with the Microtron. I can't fault anyone for going the other way, though.
