Hello Folks

I'm filling in for a last minute tribute and unfourtly slammed this week with recording for another gig.

Does anyone have these other Journey tunes?

Stay awhile

Where were you

Keep on running

You did this one? Good job. Yes what I used to do was cover the bases, not really play the notes.

Now are you sure it's not triplets at the end of each bar, except for the fast fill with 16th, at the beginning of the song?

I "repaired" a GuitarPro file that someone else did. I would say that I changed about 95% of it! The original version didn't even have the ending.

The original version did have triplet quarter notes. If you listen to the guitar intro, it's definitely triplet quarter notes. But the bass line is a little different. It's like he plays the first note a little shorter and leans into the second note. During the first verse, it's like he is somewhere between what the guitar player is doing and what the drummer is doing with the kick drum. You can really hear it during the first guitar solo and second verse. I may be wrong! :)

If you plug it into GuitarPro like this, it sounds boring:

But, to me, this seems to groove a little more like the song:

At first I thought that maybe the triplets were spanning across the two bars. But to me it sounds like the 3rd note is squarely on beat 1.

Minor typo -- that last measure has two notes on the wrong string. Should be:

G|----------------------------------|---------------------------------|
D|----------------------------------|------------6--------------------|
A|---------------2-----------4-6----|----------------------------6-7--|
E|-0---------2-4-----------------4--|--------------4-5----------------|

Since this thread is back from the dead, I'll concur with WRBass on his "repaired" rhythms. After sitting down and playing through the song on the drums, the bass and drums are definitely using the 8th/16th/quarter rhythm he's got noted. It's a much more typical syncopation for a drummer, especially with the 8th note feel and the backbeat on the "4" in the middle of the phrase (not that there's anything "typical" about Steve Smith's playing! Check out the wide open snare hit on "2" at the beginning of the first line of the second verse. Beautiful.).

The guitar (especially soloed in the intro) has a feel much closer to the original triplets (still landing on the "1", though). Good catch, WR!

BTW, how are people playing the B-C-B-A-F# run at the end of that phrase? Hammer-on/pull-off?
