I've got the chance to buy a joyo voodoo octave for pretty cheap... what are pros and cons of the pedal? Cant decide if i should pull the trigger... i'm pretty short on cash and have the sa ofd... any thoughts?

Ive never used it but I have to ask, how much can you get it for?? Ive heard good and bad about the Joyo but thats kind of like almost everything on TB haha. Wondering if its cheap enuogh to just grab it say heck with it and enjoy it. But its not my money and I know how it is to want to grab something just because you can get a deal on it.

I haven't used one but I have a few other Joyo pedals and enjoy them.

The Ultimate Octave, which I was researching at one point as a possible purchase, apparently has two caps soldered in backwards. If you put them back the way they're supposed to go, it's supposedly a decent Foxx Tone Machine clone.

That doesn't seem like a great deal. They go for GBP 30 new in the UK. Just buy it from there and at least you have a warranty, can return it if you hate it, etc.

What is it supposed to be a clone of?

In american new they are $35 - $40, used ~$20. Don't know what your other options are overseas, but it seems like you're paying a premium for these pedals. I'd take a second look around before jumping on it. Also, the Voodoo Octave is a noise box fuzz type of pedal from what I understand. Some low end loss and heavy distortion.

The Ultimate Drive seems to be the preferred Joyo among TB'ers (at least as far as dirt goes). I'd check it out first. Unless you're after something really buzzy.

Worst pedal I've ever wasted money on. This isn't Joyo hate in particular, as I love their compression. I also had their phase 90 clone which sounded great but broke after 3 days.

No useable octave up. Literally cannot hear it. The distortion could be okay for someone, but not my thing.

I missed the return date on amazon by a couple of days so it has become a parts pedal. Already scavenged the two 3pdt switches.

Long story short, spend your money elsewhere.

This very issue is addressed in the links I posted above. Which is a PITA for some, I know, but just pointing it out. :)

I can imagine absolutely no scenario in which I'd use the Voodoo Octave by itself. However, in a chain, it does some nice things. I have a gritty tone chain I'm just in love with right now, which includes a Joyo Dyna Comp, a Boss-style octave preset on a Digitech iStomp, the Joyo Voodoo Octave, a fuzz preset on another iStomp, and a Tech21 VT Bass. For what the Joyos cost, I don't mind not being able to use them all the time, or not being able to use them alone at all. I also have a Joyo Analog Chorus that I barely ever use, but it's a no-brainer to have one on my board considering it was ~$30.

I know this is an old thread, but I came across it and want to add that there is a really easy mod that makes this pedal way better. Here’s the link to the directions:

The octave really becomes prominent, and it sounds awesome on both bass and guitar.
