JR Beck Basses

Hey guys I have an Ampeg B2R amp on the local Craigslist, and I got an offer to trade for a JR Beck % String bass. I have searched the internet for information on these basses and really can't find too much about them. As far as I know they were sold somewhere in Austin until the business went under, and then a bunch of the guitars were sold for cheap. Can anybody tell me something about these basses???

Thanks! :bassist:

I bought one of those from the guy in Austin. Paid $100 new for a sunburst P bass. Looks fine, plays well, sounds awesome! Such a great sound. The neck seems heavy due to the instrument not balancing well around my neck....the bass neck want to droop.

But if you find one cheap, buy it.

JR Beck was apparently one of those collaborations with a large factory in the Far East, where you supply the specs and get a branded batch back. Those dull aluminum (?) barrel knobs are typical of Chinese-made basses in the "almost-boutique-like" vein.
