Just a Hypothetical Question for Future Reference

Ok, I'll bite. I would never gas for an SB-2. Love Thunderbirds, had one of the bicentennial ones a long time ago, not my thing anymore. A 54 P, no, if it were a 55 it would probably be my choice. The idea of a Rickenbacker has always intrigued me, but not enough to buy one. So, that leaves us with the MM. I am a huge MM fan, I have owned quite a few SR's, you can never go wrong there. My current #1 though is a Classic Sabre and it is great. But, I won't be that guy who just has to recommend something not on your list, he will be along later. Go with the Stingray, thank me later...

T Bird.

I had an SB-2 for a number of years. Great bass, but I'd be happier with an SB-1.

I have a Sting signature P, which I love, but that itch has been scratched.

I actually would really like a T Bird, a 4003 and a Ray, but I'd pick the Bird first for no reason other than the coolness factor. Second choice, I'd pick the Ray Classic for the neck shape.

Why specifically a '55? Lol
Btw, I don't ever see myself buying a Sabre because I know the difference between a Stingray and a Sterling, but I don't know what diffrentiates a Sabre from either, haha

I would go specifically for an SB-1, but I've only seen Tribute SB-2s and inspite of the fact that they don't individual volume knobs, ain't ever anything wrong with a second pickup, IMO.

Btw, when I refer to a 54 P, it's a general reference for single coil precisions with body contouring, I didn't mean an actual vintage 1954 Precision, lol

I was very close to buying a bird a year ago, but felt the price was too high for what I was getting. Don't get me wrong, it was an awesome bass, but for the same price I could get a Ray that offered active electronics

Again, for what I'm spending here, my return is minimal - a single pickup passive bass that, while nice, lacks versatility. To be fair, I don't see a ton of value in P Basses, so I tend to shop for cheaper ones when I'm buying

-A Stingray Classic

Not a bad choice. I love Rays and would recommend them to anyone. As far as the Classic, though, I know some people like the 2 band EQ. I do not..

-A Rickenbacker 4003

Meh. Not a bad bass, but I could never justify the price of one. I hope to own one some day, but that won't be any time soon.

-An SB-2

If it's a tribute, I'd say go for it, but the US version seems a bit steep when there are so many great PJs out there for a lot less
