I am once again stuck with a JAN II on my streamer jazzman, too bad a brass one costs almost 15% of what i paid for the bass.

They aren't cheap, but damn they make the bass look complete. I cringed when I bought my JAN III but I love the way it looks and don't regret it one bit.

If there is a change in tone, I barely notice it.
They are more durable (the wings in my graphite one broke, and the screw stripped), and they do look much nicer on my basses

I didn't notice any change in tone. It's definitely more durable though. I was already replacing the tuners and truss rod cover so it was the perfect time for me to replace the nut as well. I did it for aesthetic reasons, and because I like modifying anything I can get my hands on.

I see it like a nice new car that has hub caps. Perfectly functional, just not as visually appealing as a set of billet wheels.

You should do it if you like the look.

i was hoping for a change in tone, like in a spector. i know when you put a brass nut on a spector, you get better tone, sustain, and coolness

I kept the JAN I on my antique Fortress and can put it back on anytime. It's (I think) brass and can be shinned up rather nicely. I can get strings a tad lower with the JAN III, but the old original one might work just as well. It does look good when polished up.

So I emailed the Warwick shop in Nashville and got quoted a price for $125 + 7 shipping = $132. I thought about it and went to the Warwick website and found it a lot cheaper. So I ordered it and the grand total came to $85.10. Over $40 in savings from the cheapest place I got quoted from.

Believe it or not, I ordered it on Wednesday and had it by Monday. All the way from Germany to Oklahoma in that short of time. I inquired for a tracking number on Monday, heard back from them in Tuesday, and on Wednesday my wife said I got a package from Warwick on Monday she had to sign for. That's what I get for working long hours. I would suggest going straight from the Warwick online store. Way cheaper and fast shipping.
