Just about to pull the trigger on CMD121P. Any advice?

If I could convince the wife it was "needed" I'd probably get one as well. All reports are that they are a great amp.

Unfortunately that is the going price for one over here. Yes, we get ripped off left, right and centre.
For those that are surprised at the price, over here you pay nearly $4000 for a Ric, and usually over $3500 for an American Standard P Bass.

If you can also try the 121P's big brother the 121H. I got one nearly five years ago and it's handled every gig I've thrown at it with extreme grace and tone which cuts for days. I know it's more expensive and somewhat larger but when I recently tried out a 121P I was very happy that I had the 121H. Too bad you've got to pay Oz prices!!!!

When I was shopping for a new combo amp a couple of years ago, the Markbass was one of the best units I tried out. I liked the size and the output capability. I didn't like the mids and I didn't care for the cosmetics. All of that is entirely subjective - - but I bought a Euphonic Audio instead.

It's a great amp and plenty capable by itself. The New York extension cab is a nice addition. It gives more power and more definition in big places. Markbass Mark Stand is a good idea. I only have this set anymore, I sold all my other amps because they were getting no use. What I don't like is the yellow color.

Mine are made in Italy. They make them in China nowadayz. Shame.

That's just way too much. When Guitar Center had a sale last year it was marked down to 999 then 800ish with a coupon. Now I think its under 700. Then I STILL choose and bought a new v3 500 watt rumble over it. To me the rumble is better in everyway unless you want the cleanest tone. That is all a MB is. A clean and somewhat sterile tone in a lightweight yellow package.

Haven't read all responses yet, but guitar center/mf has the cmd121p right now for $675 us which is $885 aus. Something really wrong with the prices you have. (I bought a cmd151 jeff berlin on sale for $900 us.)
Big prices are what you get living in a market with fewer people than California spread across a continent. I saw a Ray34 in the shop yesterday snd it was $2000! I'm glad i got mine on ebay from a guy clearing out his basement. Check out the price of a new E Class Mercedes, it's double the US price even allowing for exchange rates. Sigh.

Do you guys really not understand how much stuff costs in Australia?

What really gets up my nose is how we pay so much more for downloaded software, music, movies etc when there is no shipping etc. Currently a charting song is $2.19 here on iTunes and i believe it's around $1.19 in the US (please correct me if i'm wrong). At current exchange rates it should be around $1.55.

A few years back when our dollar was at parity with the US dollar it was actually cheaper to buy a return flight from Australia to the US and purchase a copy of the full Adobe Creator Suite (photoshop etc) in a store than it was to purchase a download copy. :bored:

I eyed the CMD121P for a year or two at the local guitar center. When I finally pulled the trigger I ended up getting a used Markbass Little Mark Tube 800 and a New York 121 12" cabinet for just a bit more than what the combo was going for. I went with the tube 800 due to the slightly warmer tube sound from it. However I have been thinking of getting the combo to make things just a bit easier to transport. I did end up adding another New York 121 which filled out the sound rather nicely but just the combo should work great for most situations.

Agreed with that guy ^. Even allowing for exchange rates and all that, that's way too much money. Unless you just have your heart dead set on the Markbass, you can get just as good for less money from a different brand with better local availability.

You think any of the amps that would be a "better deal" don't have the same kind of markup in Australia? They do.

An anyway the CMD121P doesn't have any serious competition in terms of volume and portability in any less expensive combos.

Yeah but (though I don't still have mine to check it out right now) isn't that essentially the effect of the VLE control? It's like a lowpass cutting out the tweeter, no?

I just wanted to show some advantages of the Fender. You're right, if you engage the VLE the tweeter doesn't get any information, but some don't like the sound of the tweeter. So if you want high frequencies in your sound, but you don't want them to go through the tweeter you can't do this on the CMD.

Return agreement? There's no such thing in my experience. Once it's out of the shop the only thing australian retailers want to see is your back, preferably disappearing over the horizon ... fast.
Same experience here. You cant change your mind about that sort of stuff. Cant imagine any shop accepting returns because you changed your mind. In fact, im fairly certain consumer law dictates we only have rights to return/refund/exchange if the item doesnt perform its function.
