Just another "The PR40 Rocks!" thread

I've had a PR40 in my arsenal for about two years now and I just love it. I took it to my gig two weeks ago. We used a sound engineer I've known for years. He has the reputation of being one of the best engineers in the region - used to be the house guy at a major live music venue and has since started his own production company with a few local cats around the way.

I was using my NV610 and I miced it up with the PR40. After the gig, both the engineer and his business partner came up separately and raved about how great the mic sounded. Last week, we were using our normal engineer, and I miced up the same cab again. My old guitarist was there and told me that the bass sounded great out front.

I normally use a DR stand with it. I have a Z-bar coming this weekend and that I'm going to try, since the stage tomorrow is fairly tight.

Right tool for the job.

Most won't invest in the Heil but you can get a similar result from similarly full range and flat enough response El cheapo Akg P2.

I liked my Heil well enough. As a sound guy I dumped it. Good as it is, it is not rider friendly. I get requests for RE-20 and Senn 421 and Shure Beta 98? I did not end up buying the Shure as those specing it will normally settle for tpone of the other 2.

JimmyM made a thread a few years ago about a gig where he and the sound engineer compared the PR40 and RE-20. I'd like to compare the two, but my guess is while there may be some slight differences in frequency response between the two, at the end of the day, you're just really moving sideways in terms of quality.
