Just Got Ripped Off on eBay

I wonder if canadian laws are more forgiving about this kind of stuff. A couple years ago i had a very high end telescope for sale on a astronomy site .Every response i got from canada was some scammer nothing bad about canadians - these people are probably not canadians but people that went there for some ill reason...one guy was very persistent - i emailed him that i had a friend that was a cop and i would send it to him and he would bring it by for delivery - never heard from him again.... Good luck getting it straight..... Sounds like it work out but not without a hassle on your end

I'm not even sure that was a 600.00 bass.
A Fender bass is going to have a serial number somewhere and this thing as pictured doesn't have one on the front of headstock, back of headstock or on the neck plate. Also, where did you find the CIJ sticker? because it isn't on any of these pictures. you can see the entire front and back of the headstock. I'm not sure this is even a Fender made bass of any kind. I would certainly send these photos to Fender's customer service and ask them about it. I would pull the neck and get some shots of the inside there as well just for proof.

I have sold on Ebay plenty of times, even made a living doing it for a few years (I collect and sell vintage vinyl records). I quit because the seller can not win any battles, not that I was ripping anyone off, but that game works both ways. because I was a power seller, I got all kinds of advertising from companies of varying foreign locations wanting to sell me bags, shoes, clothes, jerseys, and yes Gibson and Fender guitars and basses. All sorts of other cheap knock-off stuff. EBay is rampant with this crap. I hope you get satisfaction and I'm positive you will. Next time though, make sure you ask for a serial number and a picture of it ON THE BASS.
Good Luck

Bummer...always best to think twice when something seems too good to be true, because it most likely is. That price would have me thinking it's way too good to be true, and if it is...am I taking advantage of the situation ? The angle of the pictures alone would have made me think twice. I wish you luck on the return.

The serial number and cij sticker is on the back of the neck right above the neck plate. You can see he so cleverly hid it in the pics on Ebay. I'm sure this is just a Japanese fender p bass.

+1. The photos look carfully selected to not show the "Crafted in Japan" and S/N location.

For those of you not familiar with Fender Japan products, they don't have the S/N on the headstock or neck plate like MIA or MIM instruments. What D Bopp has described, and what I see in the pics, is a normal CIJ Fender 51RI P bass with a sticker added to the back of the headstock.

I hope this works out for you, D Bopp.

I don't mean to be dumb, but why do they allow the sale of fender stickers, let alone fender custom shop stickers. Also, that specific color is the same as a lot of the 51 ri's that were produced recently. There have been a few in the classifieds.

Don't think anybody is allowed to make and sell them other than Fender, but that does not mean that you can't buy them made by a counterfeiter. Hell, you can also by "Gucci" bags and "Rolex" watches on many street corners of NYC for 1/100th of the price or less, but doesn't make em legal!

What a shame. Looks like a total fraud to me. He probably got screwed for it and thought he'd get away selling it off to someone else. He purposely left the Crafted in Japan out of the auction description and pictures. Very sneaky. Of course he will deny any wrong doing.

This is one of those auctions where you hit yourself in the head and wish you had asked many questions. The aftermarket case is a giveaway.

Exactly this^

There was someone on ebay a couple months ago selling bootleg Custom Shop logos. So it appears we know where one of them went.

I saw those pictures and saw it was a CIJ misrepresented 51RI P. So sorry to see you were the one to fall victim of a fake.
