Just had a "brainstorm"

So, recently I inquired about having my Jazz Bass painted another/different color. There's a certain Bass that I really like, but I find the color options to be quite hideous (IMHO), and Black is not one of the options. So, Has anyone seen or heard of vehicles/cars being wrapped in some type of vinyl? Well, that's where I'm going with this; I figure if it's durable enough for a car or truck, then it should be fine for a Bass guitar as well. Hell, I may be "late to the party", but, Has anyone ever done this or heard of someone doing this to their Bass before? It seems as though it would be a lot cheaper than stripping the paint off and having it repainted, and it would go right over the original paint without destroying it AND, It seems as though I could quite possibly do this myself ... maybe . Thoughts, advice, opinions? ... well maybe it's more of an idea than a "Brainstorm" In the meantime, I'll be doing some research on vinyl wrapping. Thanks TB.

One thing to ask: is it possible to do with no seams on such small and comlex shape as guitar body. Otherwise these seams will bug you every time, or the wrap itself will eventually start to peel off at them.
For some reason every such question in google search ends up with word 'plastidip'...

If you must, and if the bass is not collectible otherwise so that a change will cause significant devaluation, you are better off simply prepping the body and repainting it the desired color. Unlike automobiles, if you ever wanted to take the vinyl off, it will not come off cleanly.

Why wouldn't it come off cleanly? If the body is painted and gloss coated, that's no different than a car.
