Just Introducing myself.

Hey, all you bass players. Well, I have been a member for a bit and am learning how to play. After years of messing around with it. Learning bass lines off YouTube I finally decided to learn how to play correctly. Learning the Instrument from the ground up starting all over. So, I consider myself a beginner because till a few months ago I didn't know any notes or chords scales.
I had no idea what a root not was or any scales now I am getting some understanding now. I have a few songs I learned over the years but if they changed something in the song while playing, I was lost. I had tried playing in bands but never learning how to play correctly. It took me a while to learn songs I had to find videos on the song to learn it. If they were not playing how It was played on video. It was tuff. But now I am gaining knowledge taking lessons from SBL.
I wish I could find someone in my area that did face to face lessons. To correct mistakes, I am making if I am making any. I started this journey at an age 54 when most of y'all have been playing for decades. I always wanted to learn since I was in HS. But my dad had a rule that work came first. So, I never got the chance at HS age. After that I just could either not afford lessons and tried teaching myself. Which was very frustrating and I would get discouraged then I started learning on YouTube. Now I am retired because I have cancer and I have a lot of free time so now I have made a commitment to finally learn.
Which I am slowly but I am making progress. I have found a group of guys whom have a band and have accepted me into their band. They are a great group of guys and gal. That have been helping me achieve this beautiful thing. I have learned a few (8) songs I can play pretty well. That's what they tell me though, I can tell I mess up here and there. I am going to achieve this lifelong dream. Now my only downfall is staying committed to practicing on my own at home.
I struggle with remembering things due to chemo and radiation I have had on my brain. I am open to any advice anyone can give me. Though sometimes I need extra patience extended to me because of my learning disabilities. My wish is to play on stage and even though it may only be in a bar to me. It will be like playing an arena.
I live in Waco, Texas and if anyone is in my area and gives lessons or would be willing to help me out, I would be grateful or if you know of anyone who does give face-to-face lessons in the area. Please put me in touch. I also would like to find a site with backing tracks of popular songs I can learn from. I am trying to learn how to read music which isn't going so well. I just have barely learned to read tab. I need help LOL so if anyone is willing to give pointers share your knowledge with an old beginner. It will not fall on deaf ears and will be highly appreciated. Thanks for reading. I know it was long winded I really didn't know what to say.
