Just musing here....Dilemma (my) P vs (my) J - which to keep?!?!

Dilemma.

Two basses. I really only NEED one. I dig them both.

The P is lighter, plays a bit easier, fits a bit better in a loud band situation, and has a great GRUNT to it.

The J, I put together myself, and it's been my baby for years now. Probably more versatile and more smoooooth. I can cop most of the P tone with it.....whereas the P can't get close to a J.

If I'm 100% honest, while the J could probably net me more $$$ in a sale, it's the one that makes me want to pick it up and play it......and Jazz basses still give me a bit of a thrill up my leg, when I'm checking them out and see other people playing them.

The Precision? It just WORKS....and it feels like everyone should have one in the arsenal, right?

Decisions.

Take one to three items you buy every day and don’t buy them. Keep both!

First off how do you know that you can get enough money from either bass to take care of your situation? I'm not a fan of selling my stuff so what I do is find something to cut out. Eating out, Starbucks, beer. If you do sell, you will most likely never recoup your loss. Clean out the closets or garage. Find something that has no meaning.

There you go! Very nice of you. I've actually done that before. Was short in money and sold my bass to my guitar player knowing I can buy it back When my financial status is back to normal which is what exactly happened.

So, as many of you expected, I was pretty convinced I would keep the J and move the P.

Then my friend reminded to of THIS video I made last year, shedding for a gig, and how I was so knocked out by the P and how well it worked, live.

This is just straight into a Genz-Benz Shuttle 9 and little 12" Ampeg cab, recorded right off an iPhone. Chunky, huh?

I'm so confused!!!

tldr: J neck on the P, if it still balances well while strapped, send that J body and P neck packing to new homes. If it dives, swap the necks back and still send the J away to someone else.

also a geetar player, also have heard some people make Js sound pretty great, had two different Js, a couple not-at-all-fenders, and now a P. Only the P. The Js were fun (100% of the time at home, 20% of the time with band), sometimes sounded right, looked dope, both were waaaay more expensive and better playing than my mim P. I only miss them when I'm forgetting all of the eq and pedal tweaking that I had to go through to get them to truly sit right. This cheapo P, my fingers, thumb, or picks, a rat clone for some occasional low-mid scoop and sparkle, and I'm all set. The only additional basses that I want are other Ps for other strings.
