I went with the Diamond bass compressor. I was looking at the new Boss bass compressor, Mad Professor forest green, Diamond, and the Empress. When it came down to it, I was looking for something super simple that would make my sound that much better. Unfortunately, I'm not able to try each one out side by side so I'm hoping I made the right choice.

There's no right or wrong, those are all good choices.
The Diamond comp is known to enhance bass tone in a pleasant way.
I'm currently using the Empress which is super transparent sounding.
The tone enhancement that I've read on all of the reviews is what was most appealing to me. Although the Empress was very close on my list.
You made the right choice ;)
Nothing like a little reassurance

No one will ever go wrong with the Diamond. It is an outstanding compressor that sounds amazing. I had one for many years, and wouldn't hesitate to get one again. I also had an Empress, and when I did a direct comparison between Empress and Diamond, the Diamond won. IMO/IME, out of the comps you were considering and what you say you were looking for, it was the right choice hands down.

I just started using my Diamond Bass Compressor again and it is an excellent piece of gear. Unless you're looking for hard limiting (it's really not s designed to do that), the Diamond should put a smile on your face.

For me it seems to add a little extra depth to the tone and odd as this sounds, actually seems to improve my signal to noise ratio. I think you will find the Diamond nails your criteria.

This is good to hear. I've been without a compressor for a little while and I'm excited to see how the Diamond sounds with my setup.
Love my Diamond.

Still want to try the Empress and one of the "Green"s (Pale, Forest, etc).

Don't forget to post back here when you get it
a) First impressions
b) honeymoon
c) after the honeymoon
I'll make sure to post my experience when it arrives.

I'm pretty sure I read from Ovnilabs review about improving signal to noise ratio. I wonder if it will do the same with my set up.

Empress vs Diamond is apple vs orange. Empress is about transparency/versatility. OTOH, Diamond is about warmth... in my limited experience. Limited because I didn't own the Diamond very long. It sounded great with my passive basses, and quieter actives, but was too squishy with my hot actives.

I found the Empress to be "better", only in its ability to dial in the right kind of effect.

The Diamond was fantastic, but fairly limited in its effect and its compatibility. If I played a passive Fender style bass, I'd definitely still use it. But i found it didnt play ideally with my high output active basses, so off it went in search of something that would like my signal better. Still looking, but the Empress is the no brainer for me.

Diamond is limited with: power supply - 9v is not enough (Empress 9v or 18v - OK), it does not work well with active basses and it's noisy. And yes it has some kind of EQ, but to be honest - i would use EQ or my pre-amp if i need it. Empress is much wider, cleaner, noiseless and have blend! It does anything from light compression to medium limiting - and it is much more versatile than Diamond. If i would use passive Fender (J or P) - then may be i would try it. But Marcus Miller Jazz Bass or my MM Bongo - both sounds better with Empress. That's it.

Well I just got the Diamond in the mail today. I've put a good amount of time in it already testing it out with all of my gear.

First off I just want to mention that I got it from Prymaxe during their 4th of July sale for about $205. Shipping took 3 days and there was no issues during shipment or with the pedal itself.

I powered it right off the bat using the 18v adapter it came with. Right now I'm using a SWR chrome face bass 350 through a Big Bertha. I tried it using all of my basses which are 4/5 string passive/active.

It probably took under 5 minutes for me to dial it in to my liking. I'd say my favorite sound came when the compression was between 1-3 o'clock and the tone was between 9-12 o'clock at 250hz. There is no issues with distorting or acting up with my actives. It is also extremely quiet.

I really like the sound of this compressor, I'll always keep it on for my clean tone. In the past I've owned (in order): boss limiter enhancer, Aguilar tlc, and a symetrix 501. I would say the Diamond is my favorite out of the bunch.

So far I'd say I made the right choice. it sounds great and was very easy to figure out.

The Diamond is a very nice design. The designer has an overkill mindset for the details that they used within the circuit.
