Just received my Compulator.

Question for Bongomania, I'm looking for a stuart zender compressed tone. As I've seen other people asking for the same, I got a friend that's going to the states to buy one for me (I live in Chile, SouthAmerica) in 2 weeks from now.
Now that I see how dissapointing it has been for some users I worry a lot. I use a MIM Fender J with a GK RB400 (no tweeter).
I've started recording with a band and I need my tone to be there & also to get that effect like zender.
Would the Nova Dynamics 1, with all those knobs, be a better choice (at the same price) than the Compulator?

Thanks a lot!

I spent a month in Chile and loved it. Where else can you get pizza with corn and peas on top? :p As far as the Compulator, I would not recommend it as a "Zender effect". We've had a bunch of threads about Zender's compression and his different sounds, and everyone has a different idea of how to get there. But since the Demeter is so transparent and non-extreme, the only way it will help you is if you already sound like Zender and just want a little more control over your dynamics.

Some people have suggested that his compression came mostly from the specific qualities of his signature bass. Others have pointed out that he uses a cheap digital multieffect pedal sometimes, and it has a compressor built in. Others have suggested that he was being run through expensive high-end studio quality rack compressors that were controlled by the sound engineers, in other words the compression was not part of his rig or under his direct control.

Whatever the truth is, if you want a "Zender compression effect", the closest units I could recommend would be the Jacques Fat Burner or the Yamaha Magicstomp. They are not "perfect", but they will get you closer to the desired sound than the Compulator. Also a dbx 160 or 160X would be a good choice.
