Thought this was cool. Justin Chancellor and Danny Carey playing a Tool tune in front of what I am guessing is a music school audience, using smallish bass amp and drum kit.

I've seen this video before and was quite surprised how inconsistent Justin's picking is in the buildup to the 'praying for rain' part. I suppose in a setting like this there is nowhere to hide, but I was still surprised to see a slightly rough performance from the guy I'd expect to have it totally nailed.
I get that in a heavy rock mix that consistent, clean and on-time vibe is not vital, of course.

I like these sort of isolated songs. Makes me feel much better of how I play and sound.
The first time I saw those two play that tune they were shirtless, covered in some type of photoreactive paint and performing with the other guys in Tool under black lights. Maybe 1996? It was a loud show. The visuals certainly enhanced the listening experience. Would recommend to a friend

I saw Tool in late 2019 and it was in a large arena with a lot of 40-something year old dads. Nobody was half naked, there was no mosh pit and security was throwing people out for trying to do so, and also for violating the cell phone ban. A lot of guys brought their young kids to the show to show them the band dad loved in his high school and college heyday.
Not that I'm complaining, lol, it was still an awesome show. It's just not 1992 anymore.
I think I saw them on that tour as well. In my case I was offered a free ticket that included box seats and bar service. I was at stage level about 100 feet back next to the sound board. We rarely saw the guys on stage. Rather we all watched the intense light show that was choreographed to the set. I told my buddy that I enjoyed it but it felt stiff and formal. Definitely not the vibe of their first big run.
Same here. I feel much more confident about my own playing when I hear a lot of isolated tracks.

Quarantine is taking its toll on Tool. They are breaking into children musical schools to play live now. We really need to get them back on tour for our own and their mental health and wellbeing.
