Just wired new speakers, buzzing? (Clips inside)

Hey. I bought an Ampeg 806, the owner told me there was a "wiring problem".

Long story short, a battery test determined 4 of the 8 speakers were blown. I ordered replacements and just wired them up.

Here is what it sounds like (I don't have a bass handy, just guitar):

Whats with the extreme buzzing? I haven't screwed the speakers into the cab yet, they are just sitting in their holes; but I don't think that buzzing like this can be caused by that?

Does the buzz only occur while your playing does it get worse the louder you play, if so continue trouble shooting speakers. I would get those speakers bolted down. You would be amazed what can make a rattle when stuff is loose. If the buzz is still there disconnect the four old speakers and try again. Your battery test shows the voice coil is intact and moving but not an end all to speaker troubleshooting. Your buzz seems fairly suttle, maybe 60 cycle hum. 60 cycle hum can only come from your amp. Your off to a good start. Let us know the outcome.

The buzz does only occur when I'm playing, and gets worse the louder I play.

I bolted down the speakers and it didn't really make much of a difference.

It's not 60 cycle hum, the amp is fine.

I could disconnect the old four speakers and just wire the new ones, but thats a lot of unsoldering/soldering, is there anything else I can try first?

That's the highest tuned bass I have ever heard...:)

I don't think it's the speakers, but it's really hard to tell just by listening. It almost sounded like a snake drum buzzing! Sounds like a vibration/buzz, but it's really high. What does it sound like when you play a low note through it? Does that sound come out of every speaker? Regardless, I would pull the speakers out of the cab and play a little music through them at low volume and see if they sound clean, one at a time. Bypass the crossover. Could it be the crossover in the cab? Try bypassing that. Also, check the horn. unhook it to see if the sound goes away. I personally would just pull each driver and make sure each is good, then test the crossover, then rewire and make sure it's right, then look for cabinet vibrations, etc. Maybe have a friend try to isolate the noise while you play.

edit- Im almost positive that is what is coming out of your "guitar" amp. I would check that again...
