Justifications for buying a new bass

As long as all the other bills are paid and I'm not dipping into the emergency fund, in the acronym of a millennial, IDGAF. I like it, I want it, I buy it. Maybe I can't go out on a weekend adventure and blow $300 on a night, but that's a consequence I'm willing to accept.

Actually, I told my wife I need variety in my life, and it was either several basses or several women. Luckily, she has a sense of humor, and she not only told me I could have multiple basses, she bought one of them.

I have 5 now and have slowed down alot, but there are still a few I keep considering for #6. Overall, if I want it, I want it and that is the justification; but I also try to add some feature that i don't already have, like another string or fretless or something. Right now I'm looking at the Eastwood scroll bass reissue… fretless.

If you're single, paid your rent and bills and have nobody to answer to, no credit card debt, then go for it!

If you have a spouse, family, kids and the rent/mortgage is paid, bills are paid and there is enough food on the table and you don't have any credit card debt, and don't plan on paying for the bass with a credit card, then go for it.

Well, what makes it a problem with the wife? Is there food on the table? Are all the bills paid? Are you spending money that you earned?

I see no need for any justification if all of these requirements are met

Buying a bass can be tough when you already own 3... or 15... or 25. Or more. For those who do, unless stupidly rich there needs to be some justification in order to do so with a clear conscience. I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread to help the newbie who hasn't yet learned how to justify such purchases. I have a few of mine to offer, but I'd like to get a thread going to get as many reasons as possible - lest people start thinking they have some sort of "problem." Pishaw!

I'll start with these:

• I got a great deal and can sell it for as much as (or more than) I paid. It's money in the bank.
• I just sold that other bass.
• This model has been discontinued, and if I don't get it now I may never be able to get it again.
• I had a 20% off coupon.
• The bass is on my bucket list, so I'd wind up buying it eventually anyhow. The sooner I get it, the more days of my life I'll have to play it. We're all going to die somewhere within the next 100 years. I want as many days with this bass as possible.
• I need this bass to match the new clothes I've been wearing.
• I earn more than half my income playing bass. It's a tax write-off.
• Because I earn more than half my income playing bass, I can afford it.
  
• YOLO
• I always dreamed of having this exact bass when I was a kid!
• It makes me happy.
• I don't drink, do any drugs, party, buy cars, go to strip clubs, or waste my money any other way - really.

Well... that's what I used to justify ordering this 2 nights ago.

I think I need more before I tell my wife .

Your second-to-last justification is all you really need.

I slept only 2 hours last night, I haven't eaten, have only had a half cup of coffee and, of course, I haven't played yet today. I'm feeling ornery:

A new bass will give me inspiration to write that seminal groove that EVERYBODY will be humming even 50 years from now, I just know it.

A new bass will give me something to say on TB since I don't really have any knowledge to add.

If I don't spend the money on basses, my wife will spend it on shoes/bon bons/Starbucks/the drummer.

The cats need a new case to pee in.

I am helping feed Indonesian/Korean/Chinese kids, or even helping (holds nose) adult Canadians buy beer or snow"machine" fuel. Or perhaps you say Canadiens. Or, if I am buying American, I am helping a hipster in a California shop get a new tattoo/hat/bag of weed.
