I just got back from my lunch break which I spent at a local guitar shop. I got the chance to play one of these Kalas... pretty cool little instrument that really had a nice upright tone similar to the Ashbory. But it was cool that it had frets and the strings seemed to be a little more slippery than the silicon strings I've played on Ashborys.

Then I looked at the price-tag... $399. No thanks.

Yeah, the price is a bit steep. And I think that $399 is the street price on the sprucetop model. The all-mahogany one appears to go for $100 more.

I also worry that if these things don't sell like hotcakes, they might not be around too long and finding strings could be a PITA. Wasn't that a problem with the Ashbory after Guild stopped making them (before Fender/DeArmond picked 'em up)?
