Wow! I want to try a set! Anyone know if they require a lot of modification for an acoustic UBass? Those are different from the other Pyramid set, right?
They do custom strings. IIRC the custom tape wound was 49 (+ shipping from Germany).
I think the biggest difference is the Cali necks use jumbo 6105 frets. They are also slimmer, especially near the heel, compared to my vintage 2011 S-U-B. The new S-U-Bs I have not played, but the catalog pictures look like more slender necks.
How either affects "playability" would depend on the player, I suppose. I don't personally prefer one over the other, just apples and oranges.

I'm about ready to give up and order some, I pre-ordered the mythical LaBella tapes two months ago now with no prospect of actually getting a set in my hands in the foreseeable future.
Bluecab over in Europe special-ordered a set of the Pyramid tapes some time back and posted about it.
I would like it much better if Kala made them a product and sold them.

There's a currently whole lot of back-pedalling, with good reason, on the suitability of any brand of metal wrapped strings for fretted basses with fixed bridges.
Joe Average Bassist is not going to get perfect intonation without modifying his bass, and results can't be guaranteed.
I put a strap button in the heel of the neck at the back of the body. I use a synthetic web strap with the prism from Pink Floyd's dark side of the moon on it.

I have them on a full-scale (650mm) classical guitar, tuned low B, and the intonation is excellent. That bodes well for intonation when tuned to low E on the U-Bass scale.
I would have tried them on my SUB, but it's no longer in the stable.
Pyramid told me, that Kala got two sets of the Black Tapes at the Frankfurt/Germany-Musikmesse in March. Maybe they tested them in the meantime...
Attention: the solid bodies - through body stringing - need a bit more length than the acoustics. There should be no thick part of the string at the mechanics to avoid breakage. So if you place any future order, specify your model!

Sorry if this has been covered, did a search or two but found nothing. I am wondering if anyone uses any effect pedals for their ubass especially when soloing. I love the big full tone when playing behind the band but would like something different for solos. Any suggestions.

These tapewound strings have a metallic core, right? So you could, say, add a magnetic pickup to one of the solid body models? I'm really curious how that would sound.
