Shipping seems to be much faster from Road Toad, in my experience. Both are good sources though.
A little follow up......the learning curve is pretty steep (=fast)....after a couple of hours it feels comfy....a different animal for sure, and fun as hell. I adjusted the strings (too many windings as it arrived from Sweetwater) and I guess I'm lucky 'cause it was a demo and once tuned, it's holding pretty well. It' s making me wish there was a 5er hollowbody as well......sounds huge and very expressive through my Shuttle 9.2>>Joe Meek 3Q>>Neox 112....benefits greatly from some compression....a keep for sure!
Regrettably I do not see much info in the manual about the preamp charger, other than a 60 sec charge lasts 8 hours......does overcharging damage it? Is it best to let it run doen to zero before recharging? Is there a decent info source about the charging mechanism somewhere?
Do they make a passive 5er?

Hey lomo, I'm in the process of adding an HPF3 to my UBass. I'm going to need to find out how that preamp works in the near future. If you can't find any info I'll post what I find out.
All I can tell you right now is that it seems to work well. 60 sec charge gets you another 8 hrs play time. I read in the manual that is was not good for the preamp if you left it on the charger longer. I think I saw a lithium battery in there but can say for sure until I get in there with a multimeter to figure out exactly how it works.

I have read through all the threads here on TB about the Ubass and haven't seen anyone complain yet. I don't think the MiSi preamp has been out for very long though.

Yeah, I guess it must be a capacitor considering how short a time it takes to charge. I am surprised at how much weaker the B string is than the other 4, although that seems to be in keeping with the E being weakest on the 4 bangers. I can even it out with compression, and that will be a must in a band context, which will be happening in a couple of hours....
Really? My B is solid, as is my E. I'll make an uncompressed audio file later tonight when I get home. The MiSi preamp is supposed to have different piezo sensors for each string and I'd imagine different loading to vary the gains to level out each string.
Perhaps there's some calibration you or a tech could do. I'll post up the track so you can compare.

It was worth the price of admission to see the look on my bandmates' faces 1)when I pulled it out of the gig bag and 2)when they heard the 1st notes.....we were playing our cover of Roy Orbison's You Got It. I have to play around more and get the compression just right to even out the B though.
Here's my .WAV recording with some typically sloppy playing but you can hear the balance of the strings. No amp sim, no compression, volume and bass maxed and treble at half. Let us know how yours compares lomo.
Can someone tell my why nobody is using the new Aquila red strings?
I have dug way back in this thread and watched all the vids I can find on youtube. As far as I can tell the Reds are less squeaky/sticky and have more sustain than thunderguts, but no one seems to be into them. But I haven't really seen anyone complain about them either. What is the deal, what specifically do people not like a bout them?

From what I've heard, they're less sticky than thunderguts, but only slightly less. Sticky is still sticky.
Ok, that make sense, thanks. I might try them eventually. I am still using thunderguts so a small improvement might be worth it.
I've given it a lot of thought, but my Cali five string fretless just isn't getting played enough to keep. I'm going to be leaving the treehouse...
