Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

Here's mine. I went with the bigger one. I really like thumbrests and have put the on most every bass I have modified.
I'll put an ad in the classifieds but I'll ask here for obvious reasons:
I have a new fretless solid mahogany ubass. I want to trade it for a fretted solid mahogany or spruce top. Ideally an older model sans preamp. Let me know, thanks.

Funny guys. I found it cheap on Craigslist. Guy didn't know what he had. I forgot how much fun they are to play and how badly I stink at fretless.
I just had to re-tighten the input jack.
At first I couldn't tighten it enough, the exterior nut was all the way down to the end of the threads yet the jack was still loose.
After looking inside I could see that there was plenty of space on the threads so I ended up taking the whole jack out of the access hole -with the pick up wire still attached- and backing off the rear nut a couple threads which shortened the threads that are exposed on the outside allowing the nut to tighten properly. (man, I hope that made sense lol )
If I was to redo this with loctite where would I want to put it? I'm thinking on the inside nut to keep it in place.

Yeah, you could put it on both. Usually there's some type of locking washer to prevent it from coming undone. If you do use locktite make sure you only use the blue stuff. The red needs heat to get it to come off.

I put a dab of blue Loctite on the inside threaded portion about 3 years ago. Hasn't budged since!
I used to follow this thread but life got in the way so apologies if this has been covered but has anybody whacked a set of pahoehoes on a Guitarron. I get that the scale length is not ideal, but I am sorely tempted to try it. Not that I own a Guitarron.

...about the "sausaging " that was discussed a while back...I restrung my fretless hog with the original pahoehoes (the previous owner put a set of silver rumblers on and had the 'hoes stashed away in the case)...anyway, I can see on the d string, around the second fret line, a little bumpy sausage-like spot. What's the deal with this?
All the string are stable, that is, I don't need to retune /restring them every day, they're holding pitch fine.
What is the reason for the defect? Is it time for some new pahoehoes?

Happy Holidays - quite unexpectedly, Mrs. Claus brought me a new uke bass for Christmas. What a fun little axe! Looks like I've got some serious mega thread research to do on this instrument. It sounds pretty righteous through my markbass combo - looking forward to trying this on an upcoming gig.

First time out with my 'hog. We played with two other bands last night and just about every one of the other band members asked about the little rascal. One guy told me he thought I was playing a mandolin but couldn't figure out where the boom was coming from. Haha...Link Removed

This is my first post here, I just joined. Actually I have been lurking here for quite some time. Somewhere in the middle of Megathread 6. Since the thread has slowed I decided to say "Hi" and maybe get things rolling again.
Thanks to all of the experimenting here it was easier to decide what equipment I wanted to learn to play bass. Ended up with the mahogony acoustic, an HPF-Pre 3, and a Genz-Benz Contour 500. Wow this thing sounds great!
Maybe someone can help with the one issue I have with my U-Bass. How do you keep the back access panel from falling off? This is the one with magnets. I am on my 2nd one, the first was slightly warped and lost one of the metal strips when it fell off. Aside from that this thing is great. Using the original strings which are nicely settled in. I have one other short-scale, an Ohana OBU-22 that has roundwound metal strings that I really do not like and hope to replace soon with a Kala California Solidbody 4-string. Not sure if I should get the fretted or fretless. Any input?
