Wouldn't a full scale sound completely different though? I imagine you'd lose tons of the u bass boom because of it

I don't think so. I'm sure the sound will be somewhat Different, but I don't think you'll lose the good stuff.

Check out the video on the previous page. It's medium scale, but I like the sound. It's got thunderguts which are much brighter than pahoehoes and it's poorly recorded, but it still sounds cool. A pahoehoe strung 34 big bodied acoustic would sound great.
Oh I must have missed that before, that is super cool. What's the length of the strings? Both the pahoes and the thunders... It's just 2 more inches so maybe it's possible if you just swap the tuners?
Wow, I just got a set of the kala roundwounds and I put them on my hadean solid body, they sound and feel great. I love the pahoehoe strings immensely, but these are very cool. I'm going to inquire as to whether they plan on making them for the longer scale 5 string.
I have been enjoying the new roundwounds on my acoustic. Very different than the Thunderguts and Pahoehoes of course, but, when you want regular strings, and you like very small scale, it's a whole lot of fun. Sounds and feels good. I was thinking of bringing it to work this way to practice some stuff during lunch.
How do they compare to the pyramids? Also are they soft enough to use on a fretless without worrying?
No idea, and I usually hate roundwounds, but these feel really nice and sound good. Not too "zingy" and still with plenty of lows, but also focused.
I recently put those Kalas on my custom fretless bass uke after trying Pyramids. I like the Kalas better, seems to put out a deeper sound. They are very comfortable for me.

They are slightly thicker than the Pyramids. Intonation is good. The other bass player in my uke group uses a Kala spruce top with Pyramids and I never liked the sound, but I had a set of Pyramids in a drawer and when I finally got my fretless functional, I decided to try them.
They were OK, but when I again changed the premp and tuned up the Pyramids, I broke the E. Couldn't find Pyramids anywhere, but did see the new Kalas and ordered 2 sets. Got them on and liked them better. The other set is going on my Rondo Hadean modified blue solid body.

Intonation is good. I wound up cutting a nut just for these strings. They are soft and comfortable to play.
Does anyone else notice you tend to practice more often since getting your U-Bass? I find my practice time has increased dramatically because it is so easy to grab the Kala and play without any equipment hassles.
Being that I've only been playing bass about a year, and I play with a ukulele group that rehearses twice a week, I practice alot, which is much easier with my small acoustic basses.

Do you mean you changed the preamp in the u bass itself? What did you change it to?
My custom bass uke made in Vietnam by Bruce Wei Arts did not come with any electronics (see my earlier post). I added a pickup and preamp but I couldn't get it functional. After months I finally replaced and got it working, but the preamp died so I changed it and it's working fine now. I buy all my preamps direct from China, the last one is this for $25:
Ah cool. Do you use the usual pickup or something else? I've toyed with the idea of trying something other than the undersaddle transducer (like one of those ones that stick to the body or something like that) to reduce the clicky sound
