So I have 2 Ampeg 4x10 HLF cabs which makes it 2 ohms together I have a GK1001rb which is only 4ohms so the problem I have is trade up a Ampeg 4x10 HLF for a 8x10 or buy either an ampeg SVT2pro head or GK2001 RB head (both used of course).........what should I do??

If you can deal with the size of one big cab, I'd say get the 8x10. I had a 1001 paired with my 810E a few years ago and got a great tone with it. The 810E is actually in my opinion easier to carry then 2 4x10 cabs as long as you have someone to help you.
I agree with Rbass. I own the 8x10 cab now and it is so much easier to move around than 2 4x10 cabs due to the built in dolly-like casters and heavy duty handle. I have no problems moving it around by myself and I am not a very big guy.
That said, it may be beneficial to trade in your head for a sepearate poweramp and preamp. You could then choose to bring only one of the 4x10 cabs to a smaller venue or if the van is tight on space.

yeah the whole reason for me having 2 4x10's is i already had 1 and the second i got a great deal on both are american made and we are playing with the misfits this week and they are big venues like one is 800 cap. and the other is 1600 cap. but then we play small venues too like 100 cap. so i figured it was more versatile to have 2 4x10hlf cabs....they weigh 85lbs each and have the big caster wheels and handle on the back as well.
I would say get a head that can handle the ohm's of both of those cabs. It's nice to be able to downsize your rig for smaller venues, even though those 4x10hlf's aren't the smallest cabs.

depends what kind of gigs you're doing. if you're doing clubs, probably keeping the 2 4x10s is a good idea, due to the ability to use just one 4x10 at the smaller venues. the 8x10 could be overkill for some club gigs but it could be necessary for concerts. you might want to research the separate component systems, a separate preamp and poweramp. this way you can get the correct ohmage every time and nothing will blow or fry. plus you can change your poweramp options easily for larger or smaller systems and rooms.

Rich, I'd keep the two 410HLF's and change the head. I personally wish the 810 was two 410HLF's put together. The OLD 810HD Ultra was an attempt at it. The ported 410HLF puts out nearly as much air as a FULL 810E and is LOUD compared to what HALF an 810E will do. The 810 is of course louder if you have the power to put to it. If you look at an SVT-4PRO or the equivellent in other manufacturers WT-1205 eden for instance. They will do the 4 Ohms in the Stereo mode and will ROCK a set of SVT-410HLF's, also in the stereo mode they will handle 2 ohms and four cabs if you decide you need to upsize. I'm working on trying to figure out how to stack an 810 with a 410HLF to get a 6.5' stack. Anyway, the 410HLF ONLY, none of the other cabs only the HLF is actually a better cab in my opinion than the 810E and I have a pretty good knowledge of both. I personally feel the SVT-410HLF is the best cab Ampeg has built. BOB

I know you like the SVT-410HLF cabs. I've recently got one myself, they are good ones. I wish the could do stereo like the 810 cab.
so i found an svt 4 pro for $800 im gonna offer the guy $600 as its been up there for 3 weeks now......its a decent amp? ive never played through one before.......the eden just really isnt my sound i dont think.....
Yep, it's a good amp. Used one recently. Not quite the same as an SVT all-tube, but if you like the GK sound, you will also like the 4 Pro.
BTW, I agree about Eden. Never been a fan.
